"Knowledge is only rumor until it is in the muscles", 看到一个老朋友的MSN quote, 值得仔细想想的一句话, 多么简单又踏实.

顺带记下最近的心情...

换到了新team学新东西学, 还蛮有压力的. IT 行业就是这样, 尤其是我们作软体(software)的, 永远不许你停下脚步... 所以自己进修是很重要的... IT不能像做Accounting, logistic ... etc 回到家,什么都不管了, 反正accounting rule, logistic practice 也不常改变. 有时回家一路上还在想怎么解决一些技术上的问题. 回到家还需要牺牲自己的时间学一些新的技术.

我想大概每个作软体的工程师都有自己学习的习惯, 方法和空间吧. 学习环境对我们是很重要的... 在公司里根本就不能静下心来学习, 电话声... 同事对着电话在骂远在世界不知道那个角落的东东和西西... teleconfrence... 人来人往... 等等.
不过我有一个进入状态的境界, 当我全神贯注的时候我都听不到任何吵闹声, 入定了,哈哈, 在这时候总会有人来找我,不经意的拍我肩膀,结果我会吓了一大跳, 后来同事们来找我的时候都知道,不敢拍我肩膀,还会小声的叫我. 这是真的, 我真的就有这样的情形, 我的前任老板说我有 brain damage 哈哈, 适合做sniper.

不过反过来想, IT的好... 到那里都能工作, 在地铁里, 摇晃的地铁, 看着不同人的脸, 想想,有时灵感就涌现, 问题解决, 感觉还蛮有成就感的. 作完一个Project 就好像生了个baby ~ 哈哈, 有发明家的成就感, 征服了困难的成就感...

下个月会去听听NUS ISS Master of Science 的Preview talk, 心里已经想好了, Venus 出国公干应该就是我再进修最好的时机吧, 拿个Part Time Course Work Master. 工作了5年,该是进修的时候了吧.

六月23 的心情。。。

好久没上来写一些我的心情了。

最近的确遇到一些很不顺心的事, 撑得好累. 想想又能怎样, 生活啊~还是得过．（怎么心境竟然这样老了．．．）

工作一向来就高低起伏, 换team 的事总算有点眉目了,可是心里却没有想象中的开心… 可能真的看开了, 也不敢期望太多, 担心失望越大吧… 随遇而安吧.


来个小总结吧, 也给自己撑下去的鼓励, 更给自己从新开始的机会….

看到这句静思语 - 人生不一定球球好球, 但是有历练的强打者, 随时都可以挥棒。　


最近在电视节目上看到这样一句话…

黎明将至就算黑夜张狂, 撑下去,你一定会看到第一道曙光… (大概是这样…我一定要撑下去。)

You have to understand everything

Again, the ignorant leader came out with his "brilliant" quote in the meeting.
"I cannot accept you don't understand anything that interacts with our system... "

Basically he wants me to understand an external system that interacts with our system, and I have some rough idea what the system is doing, what the output is to our system and how should we deal with that.
I thought that is pretty ok for me since I am not the one who develops that external piece.

Below are the details...

He wants me to know
1. How internally the components work.
2. How to configure the external system and pass the configuration file to the external team which handle them, ask them to deploy it.
3. When problem occurs, he wants me to check the log of the external system.

my answers
1. I'm not the one who develops this; I don't have enough documentation for this.
2. I don't know the standard practice of that team and don't understand the system environment.
3. I don't even have the system access right.

The last point - THIS IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY IDIOT!

That's y we have so many IT roles in the organization. Especially in MNC the system environment is so complex, in every region there are hundreds, thousands of users using the system 24/7. Don't try to pretend that you are expert in every field in such an environment. You wouldn't know the impact and I bet you don't want to take responsibility.

Using a database doesn't mean you know how to fully configure it, you maybe know part of it but you still need the expert to help u, they are the DBA(Database Administrator).

Using the Unix doesn't mean you know how to backup to tape, how the internal components works and so on and you need some Unix expert to help you, that's TEAM WORK.

We need TEAM WORK not HERO in every Org.

If he is really so good about all the systems, y don't he gets all other’s pays and replacing them instead of just staying here with his age of 4x, acting as a KNOW-ALL leader in a team of 4. His idealism becomes his stupidness at last.

Be practical... think before you speak as a leader.

从Java + Oracle 转到 VB + ASP + MSSQL, 逊 !

今天和老板谈了换 TEAM 的事。。。 预料中，不成功。
心理虽然事先有底了，可是还是不爽 ！

一想到以后可能要做 Visual Basic 和 VB script 的technologies 就"sian"掉。。。
苯 ！ 从Java + Oracle 转到 VB + ASP + MSSQL, 逊 ！！ 浪费我的时间 ！ 。。。 team lead 说要让我maintain 他的 VB 的 framework... 晕掉！

花了整整一两个月用 VB script 来做出来的 framework。。。 无话可说。 如果他用Java Script 可能我还会有兴趣。。。

烂team, 如果半年后真的要我做这些有的没的。。。 真的想走。。。

今天在上班途中经过NUS。。。忽然脑袋闪过一些话。。。
“与其花钱去念master不如把那些钱拿去考一些 IT certs ...."

还记得这些话是毕业不久后说的，应该有五六年了。。。

常常认为自己记性不好，可是有一些自己所过的话是不会忘记的。。。 可能自己也无形中被自己所说过的话主引导着。。。

承认自己不是细腻的人，不过有时候一些小事还是想把它记录下来，可能是因为老了。。。 觉得除了工作金钱，也该为自己做些事。

沉淀 -〉领悟，我的解释。

有时候真的需要有在生气，无奈，各种各样的心情时停下来沉淀的能力. 沉淀,当杂质慢慢漂到最底部，朦胧的事物都看清楚了，心情一片豁达开朗。心情平服和沉淀是两回事，至少对我来说。 心情平服不会有领悟，沉淀却会。

对自己有益的关键在于沉淀的速度，领悟得越快对自己帮助的越大，对事情的下一步发展越好。
当然领悟的前提是沉淀自己，如何让自己抽离一种心情到更高的层面来回顾自己是很重要的，简单的说就是好像在 rewind 发生的事，想想为生么当时会有这种表现，应不应该，值不值得。。。

很庆幸今天在遇到一件很愤怒的事情后，打了电话给Venus, 平静下来，沉淀，分析一下，把该做的都作好，结果出来也很不错,大家都开心，还可以和“事主“开心的聊上几句， 前后不到3个小时，觉得这次处理自己的情绪还不至于这么糟。脾气一向暴躁的我往往会生闷气一整天。

夜了，明天会更好。

Pending 1 个月的 issue 终于 resolved 了

这两个星期真的是很忙，因为我的 Compensation Production system 有 Data discrenpancy 的 issue... 今天总算告一段落了。。。 Business user 决定 "bring it up to another level" 来解决！（就是说可能要搞大它　！不过已经不是我这个 level 可以解决的问题了，心情也放松了不少。）

Data discrenpancy 的问题对很多 IT　业者来说可能并不陌生，


在小公司里，如果system出了什么问题，你只要走去别的department, 问一问，查一查 database 可能不用半小时你就懂问题出在那里，谁在搞怪。

但是为什么我需要花上浆久来resolved 呢。。。

在这里可不是。。。 这里的IT　分得很细。　

IT 有 Supply Chain, Global Channel Partner IT, Network and Infrastructure, Business Intelligence ... etc 等等 IT division.

我是under Global Channel Partner IT Division ， 里头还分 Partner Resource Management(PRM), Partner Channel Compensation(PCC), Partner Information (PIQ), 哈哈复杂吧？

我是属于Europe（EMEA) - PCC Level 4 的。

我的 system link with Business Intelligence 里的一个 appliction, 而这个 application 又link with Supply Chain 里的另外一个System， 所以当我发现问题时我必须慢慢trace... 这些application都在Europe, 而且来自不同的Division 和 Dept. 哈哈！ email，电话， teleconfrence 来来往往就花不少时间。 而且 email，电话， teleconfrence 还不算 Official, 他们有时还要求你 Log A SERVICE call !　问题会通过不同的　Level1, 2, 3, 4 一直传上去，有时候Level1的负责人在Europe, Level2的人在Russia, Level3 在 Germany, Level4 在UK　（这是一个很烦琐的　ITIL Process，改次才详谈这个) 真吐血 哈哈！

花了2 个星期总算有结果了， 约了UK Business user 下午5点 teleconfrence, 老板给了一些意见和Instruction, 叫我也 send invitation 给他，我照做了， 原本以为老板会 join meeting, 谁知道last minutes 放飞机说：“ 你可以自己　go ahead 吗 ？ “ Business User, Support lead 已经在telecon里了才叫我go ahead, 明显在 sabo　我　！　

我之前刚进来这里时已经被这个　UK 的 business user 鸟过一次了，那时我email 给其他 IT department 时把他放在 CC list, 结果他回我：“ Do you think I got so many times to read your communication between you and the support staff...　！　"　哈哈。　所以猜想这次我死定了。。。　。。。　硬着头皮敢敢来！ 。。。 。。。结果非常意外 ！　

他说　... ... don't get me wrong, I understand your situation, you are kind of stuck in between, I appreciated you drive the investigation ... really... I need an confirmation from XXX... ... I'll bring this up to XXX division let them decide what to do 。。。 ！


庆幸他知道不是我不要帮他或者是我无能，这个data discrenpancy issue 真的是别的division 的问题，别人不能 resolve, 我也没办法。。。

所以 Pending 了两个星期 + Level 3 的两个星期， 总共花了一个月才把这个从来没有solve过的 issue 搞定了，好累！

结果晚餐到餐厅和 Venus 庆祝了一番 ！ 哈哈！

MNC工作甘苦谈

在MNC工作有时候还真吐血。。。

2007 年 Quarter 3 从 May ~ July.

工作开始忙,美国总部又说要CUT COST ! Project 要Shorten deadline !
哇，听了就晕 ~ 。。。

Travel Plan 可以cancel的就cancel 。
Head Count 要减，留到明年才请人。
Teleconfrence 不到4个人的会议，最好不要用teleconfrence...
连招待外宾的lunch,dinner 都要 CUT !

最令人头疼的还是跨国部门间的工作协调。
我的工作常要和欧洲，印度的部门合作，有时为了配合他们的时间还要日夜颠倒。
一来一往的email往往可以持续好几个星期只为了解决一个小问题。。。
后来学乖了，用电话直接找人，结果好了一点。。。 不过有时候还是推不动他们。

欧洲人工作多少看私交，这是我碰壁多次的结果。。。
他们以前常Ignore 我的eMail,可能因为我是新人，他们不认识我吧。。。后来发现不是，如果你和他们有私交的话，他们比较会“动”哈哈。
我的做法是。。。 before 给他们email或电话，最好Add他们在MSN, 闲聊一下，让他们对你有亲切感之后再“下手”哈哈！而且“Thank you so much"，"I really appreicated"， "I know you are busy, but..." 这类的话要常说，狗腿一番，事情好办多了。　

印度人又有不同的做法。。。　
因为他们大多都是Support staff, 所以常要接受我们所给的"task". 个人觉得他们有点ego... 很多东西他们不懂，他们不会说，他们只会show你印度人横摆着的头说:" yes ~ yes ~ no problem, this can be done easily". 当他们说这类话的时候，要小心 ~ 他们很大的可能性会把东西screw up ! 我有次因为浆气炸了，当场在telecon发彪， 要他 On NetMeeting, 当场Step by step 告诉他 : "Follow my steps, do it now !" 我的同事还大声对着电话说:" This is not an option anymore, just follow the step we are telling you now !"
经过浆的“威逼”＋“恐吓”他们下次就不敢啦 ~　哈哈。(好黑心哦!)

- 在 3 年就 30 了... 还一事无成,感觉好悲哀.

- 为什么又是为了工作而生闷气...

－为什么又搞到自己浆累，你很厉害，不过你不是 Project Manager, 不是 System support, 不是 System Analyst, 不是 Analyst Programmer, 不是 System Enginner 你什么都不是！　如果你什么都是，你就会很累！

- 你不是 MCSE, MCDBA, SCJP, SCWCD, 如果你什么都是， 你就会很累！

- 从今天开始,告别 9, 10, 11 pm 下班!
- 从今天开始,India 的 sytem support, 休想再打 lim beh 的电话！我是不会接的！　
－从今天开始，老板们不要再用　eAwards 来诱骗“林北“，我拿过了，只不过是几百块而已嘛 ！　
－从今天开始，我要每年都去旅行。
－从今天开始，我要每年都去２次潜水。
　
－从今天开始，我要好好规划我３０岁的生活和方向。　
－从今天开始，我要开始研究投资新国股市。　
－从今天开始，我要让自己快乐。　
－从今天开始，生活第一，工作第二。

自大的老板

去年年尾Team Leader 走了， 我一个人扛下这个 application... 挨了几个月，总算天有眼，老板大概知道我辛苦吧，给了我一点甜头，几百块奖励（应该算是我 OT 和搭 Cab 的钱吧~ 哈哈）

年头，来了个4x 多岁的 Team Leader, 好开心，总于可以松口气了。。。　
这个Team Lead 呢，　应该是很有经验的，　这点我认同，毕竟有点年龄了哈哈。。。有些东西说的头头是道。　不过总感觉他有点倚老卖老　～ 不过算了。。。

最近这种情况有点变本加厉 ~　总觉得他根本没有放心思在我的application上。。。　他provide 的　solution, 有时候听起来头头是道，可是却没有考虑太多的细节。。。而我　proposed 的solution, 他又觉得不好，而且不只一次，好像针对我似的。。。　我建议的Solution都是以前一些旧公司的经验，不敢完全说对，不过也错不了多远，毕竟这不是我个人异想天开的方法，IT Industry 都在用的Standard Practices.

哎。。。　这个Uncle 的背景是more to hardware side 的，　他也有software 的经验，不过全都是Microsoft based 的，而我呢是　Java based 的。一直说他的　Microsoft 好，Java 烂。。。　拜托，Uncle, Technology 没有好坏，用对地方就是好！

而且有时候明明就不懂，还装懂。。。 Phantom Read 和 Dirty Read 明明就不一样，还说：“我今天早上才看过这些东西。。。“　好心　～ 懂 Oracle 的人都应该懂啦。。。 而且还说我去的MSSQL 2005 Work shop 的 trainer 不一定就很厉害。。。天啊，那个Microsoft 的 Trainer 是 South East Asia 唯一可以帮Client 作 MSSQL DB health check 的 On site Microsoft engineer, 给点面子吧。。。 他常On Site 在Bank, Goverement sectore 帮 DBA solve problem...

小弟我虽然不是工作 10 年，不过毕竟待过 PS(x), CS(x) Pte Ltd, 作过 DB(x) bank 和 NET(x) Singapore 的Project etc (名字不便透露的太明显，所以用 (x), 哈哈）有着4年solid 的software development 经验, certifed as SCJP1.4, SCWCD1.4, MCSE2000, MCDBA 2000 我不至于苯到给你点来点去。。。

经过这些事情之后。。。 总结一下我的想法和对策。。
- 不要纠正你老板，Uncle 想吹水就让他吹饱他哈哈，等有天别人来辍破他。毕竟得罪老板前途不保，继续让他以为他是对的， 纠正他等于在帮他。
- 加强 Technical 方面的学习，务必要比他更强， 解决他解决不到的问题，他才会服你。
- 不要因为他说几句，就放弃我的强项- Java, 毕竟市场那么大， 我如果懂 Java, C#， Oracle, MSSQL 不是很好吗？？

时常听到朋友说。。。“　你很幸运，　可以在　ＸＸ　上班。。。“ 我承认幸运只占了一小部分。。。
我也常说过得比我好的人幸运，但是我并没有含有妒嫉的感觉， 因为我知道

所谓的幸运，是幸运还没来到之前所付出的努力得来的，而这些正是肤浅的人们所没有意识到的。。。机会只会留给有所准备的人。
